Why are nudists usually NOT the people you want to see naked
My girlfriend and I came across a nude beach when we were on vacation in Europe. OK, the people we saw on that beach should NOT have been running around naked: fat, flabby, shriveled, you name it. We enjoyed the beach and my gf even took her bikini top off. I want to go again here in the USA but I'm afraid my eyes could not take the "scenery" if we're stuck on a beach with old, fat people. Suggestions?
Once apon a time in the 1920's and 1930's, nudism was a "health" movement. People were suffering from restrictive clothing and lowered standards of city living from the industrialization in Europe. People would get naked, exercise, give up smoking, eat better food...and their health and quality of life improved.
These days, nudists are probably more reflective of society as a whole, so you're apt to see overweight people at the beach as well as at your local shopping mall...that's just (sadly) how it is.
If you go to a regular non-nude beach in the USA, I'm sure if you squinted your eyes a bit and imagined everyone naked you'd see that there is also a lot of flabby wrinkled bits being hidden under swimwear, so it should be no suprise that when the clothes come off you won't be witness to any modern day Athena's and Adonis' on the beach.
There is also a trend for people to "find" nudism as they get older, the kids have gone, and they feel comfortable with themselves and worry less about what friends and family might think. By this stage of life, many are no longer the perfect physical specimens you seemed to expect to see.
As far as suggestions....
First, come to expect that this is what real humans are like. In our society the only place people regulalry see other people naked is at a strip club. I don't need to go into the warped expectations that adult movies and strip clubs present about the human body...needless to say a commercialized "product" of nudity is not going to depict the average person.
Second, you might think about admiring these folks who have shed their inhibitions regardless of "flaws" and are enjoying themselves on the beach in an elightened way. They're not at the beach to "be seen", but to enjoy themselves, the fresh air, the sunshine, and the water. If they really bother you...don't look. :)
Third, you might try to find a beach that would cater more to your age group, such as Haulover Beach in Miami, Sandy Hook in New Jersey, or some of the California beaches.
